It is crucial for a company what kind of images it appears in public with, as it will be judged based on this, among other things. Despite this, many people try to approach this topic in an evasive way. "Then we'll take a few stock photos", or "then we'll ask Pisti, he usually takes photos as a hobby anyway". The problem is that these pictures will not show anything about your company - in fact, they can even be shown in a negative light if they are not the real ones, so in some cases they will do more harm than good.
What is wrong with these solutions?
We already explained in a previous article why it is not a good idea to fill the company website and social media platforms with stock photos , so now just briefly: because they are not about your company , they do not convey that atmosphere, they do not create a direct connection.
The problem with "in-house" corporate photography is different: they simply won't be of such quality that they can be undertaken by a serious company . You, as a layman, may not be able to articulate what the problem is with them, but if you look at them, you will see that somehow it is all so "little". Then you look at the competitor's website, where there are high-quality pictures made by a professional, and you feel even more that you cannot bring it to that level.
We are all visual, we show you the difference between working with an amateur and a professional, say in the case of portraits:
Which version would you choose for your company's image, the one on the left or the one on the right?
So what does a professional corporate photographer do differently?
It notices the situations when it is worth clicking . A corporate photoshoot can consist not only of taking portraits: we often try to provide an insight into the everyday life of the company. To do this, you have to photograph the employees while they are working, which is not easy: you have to find the moments that reflect the company's work processes well, and of course the angle from which you can see what they are doing. Without experience, it almost certainly won't work, and you'll end up with meaningless pictures that barely show anything.
His presence is not disturbing. The photographer must be able to work without disturbing the company's employees. If you are constantly on the road, on the one hand, it hinders the work, and on the other hand, you will not be able to catch the moments mentioned above. You don't have to take photos secretly, but it's important to stay in the background as much as possible - "Pisti" may not be able to do that.
Takes unadjusted pictures. It might seem like a good idea to ask the workers to pretend to sign something, work on the computer, make photocopies, etc. But they are not models , and they probably can't really act like models. Such set-up photos usually have a very sweaty smell, you can feel that they are set-up photos, which again does not make the company likeable. Naturalness and closeness to people would be the point !
It sets the mood. During my work, I've heard a million times that "please don't take my picture", "it's impossible to take a normal picture of me", "I'm not photogenic", "the camera bothers me", etc. Well, a photographer who knows his job knows how to overcome these inhibitions and create an atmosphere so that the subjects do not feel uncomfortable during the photo shoot. This will not be achieved if "Pisti" occasionally tells people to turn their faces or hold their hands in such a way as to show what they are doing.
Post-production on the picture. This is something that the colleague who likes to take photos in nature in his free time will probably not do, or at a very minimal level. A photo can be improved a lot afterwards, if you know how to do it. However, you will not be able to take advantage of this opportunity if you ask someone who does not know how to edit images to take the pictures. So you have to make do with the raw version, which is usually far from perfect.
This is his profile. The photographer colleague may have a good camera, but he most likely conducts non-corporate photo shoots as a hobby in his spare time, so he has no experience in this. Thus, he will not be able to cultivate this at the same level as someone who deals with it regularly, he will not be able to exploit the opportunities. During photo shoots with different themes, you have to pay attention to completely different things - that's why it's worth entrusting someone who knows how.
