Conference and off-site event photography in Budapest for a French private equity company

A French private equity company based in Paris chose Budapest for a programme combining conference and off-site activities. I photographed the event, including moments at the Széchenyi Baths and the Budapest Marathon. The gallery shows the change between business sessions, shared activities and group photographs.

Connecting the formal and informal parts

A meeting photograph and a group image from a running event explain different parts of the same programme. Seen together, they give a fuller account than a collection limited to the conference room.

The useful balance depends on the assignment. For a programme like this, the brief should identify the formal priorities and the social activities that need coverage, rather than assuming one photographer can simply follow everything.

My approach to natural expressions

I often use a telephoto lens to photograph people from a distance without repeatedly interrupting them. When I do need to step closer, being friendly and making people laugh is part of the work.

The aim is a varied collection of recognisable people, interactions, wider settings and clear group images. The group picture has its place alongside the candid moments; it does not replace them.

What to include in a combined-event brief

List the venues and activity times, transfers, access arrangements and the people who must be included. A running group photograph, for example, needs a meeting point and someone who can gather the participants.

If you are planning both sessions and off-site coverage, use the conference brief to make the priorities explicit. Share any photography or publication restrictions with the team before the event.
