I have been involved in food photography Budapest for 10 years , but I have never seen a greater demand for this field of photography than in the last 1-2 years.
What's happening, in a nutshell: every restaurant's online marketing is getting stronger, resulting in very tough competition.
A lot of restaurants have contacted me in the last month saying that they urgently need food photos or else they may close their business .
So, in this post, I will publish the experiences of the last couple of years, namely, what type of food photos get the most orders on Wolt, Netpincér and Bolt Food services , or even on social media.
In general, we took photos with restaurants in 2 main categories:
1. The first is classic food photos:
We made two of these that worked very well:
The first is the landscape format, which is photographed at 45 degrees and contains a definite edge light.
The edge light is needed to make the food shine, thus giving a significant "wow" effect to the photo. The light will make the cheese shine and the texture of the meat will come out beautifully.
Examples:
This landscape format works well because it adapts to the application interface. and the food product pages are typically designed in a landscape format, so it is user-friendly.
In addition, what we typically used a lot is the format photographed from above, which can also be used as a still image when appropriate:
It's a classic setup, my clients love it, and I hear feedback that they usually see a 20%, sometimes 30% increase in revenue after posting new photos.
In terms of colors, as you can see in the pictures, you should work with combinations that complement each other. If you don't know these by heart, that's okay, use a color wheel that you can find on Google, it will help you put together the right colors.
Here's a TikTok video if you're more of a video type:
2. The second category in which we usually work are mood photos:
By mood photos, I mean that we took various life pictures of the team members of the given restaurant, we took photos of captured moments, as they are taking the raw materials, cutting the tomatoes, this has a role because of the storytelling.
These food photos are necessary because if the guest sees who they are buying from and how the food they order is prepared, they will be much more likely to order from that restaurant. We love stories, we humans are connected to people and human stories, and we make decisions on our purchases based on these.
I can show you the following examples of mood food photos:
These pictures can be interior photos of the restaurant or a freshly baked steaming pita. These types of images are typically posted on social media by my clients.
How do you benefit from mood photos?
It is known that before ordering, customers look at the restaurant's Instagram or Facebook profile with an 80% probability and make a decision based on how often and what the restaurant posts.
So if you post about the background work or your team, the given client will be much more likely to order from you , because he will be more emotionally attached to you after seeing your story.
I hope this little tidbit was helpful. With these few examples, I wanted to show what are the common "formats" that work well in food photography , so that I can contribute a little to your growth.
