Conference photography Budapest: TCS Summit

Updated: 5 days ago
TCS Summit Europe brought senior business leaders from the UK and Europe to Budapest for a three-day event in 2018. I photographed the programme, which extended beyond the formal conference sessions into the city. The gallery includes Buda Castle, Gerbeaud Café and Andrássy Avenue, alongside people and activities from the event.
A conference story that extends beyond the meeting room
A multi-day event is easier to understand when the photographs connect its different parts. A wider setting image establishes the location, while conversations, shared activities and group photographs show the participants using that setting.
This gallery is a record of a particular photographed assignment. It is not a suggested itinerary or a statement about current venue access, availability or capacity.
My approach to the informal moments
I enjoy the unscripted interactions between formal sessions. My usual approach is to work from farther away with a telephoto lens so conversations can continue without constant interruption.
When I need to get closer, friendliness and humour help. A good expression often arrives more naturally when nobody is being asked to produce it on command.
What organisers can take from this gallery
When briefing a similar programme, include transfers, sightseeing and hospitality in the photography schedule as well as meeting times. Tell the photographer which people, locations and activities are essential.
Review a complete assignment to judge the range of coverage. For a practical programme breakdown, see the multi-day conference planning guide.
